Is E6 the best LED that Panasonic has ever produced?

Hello Guys,
I am new to the forum. I was looking around for TV and am confused between 42E6D & 42ET60. Got a quote for ET60 for 70K. Is it good or bad..?? Also is ET60 worth extra moolah compared to E6D. I am asking in terms of picture quality wise, don't care much about 3D in ET60.

Price varies based on the location. I got a quote of 68K for ET60D. But few others got a quote of 64K in other locations.

Picture quality is same on both TVs. Difference is the panel. ET60D has IPS panel. You will get wide angle viewing with out any washed out picture in ET60D. But you won't get deeper blacks as you get in VA panel.

E6D has MVA panel. So blacks are deeper in E6D compared to ET60D. But picture will be washed out if the angle of viewing is more than 35 degree.

If you don't want 3D then it's better to go with E6D. Because you need to pay 11K more than E6D's price to get ET60D.

No stock this week too. Only ET60D is available. Dealer called up Panasonic distributor and told me they don't know when new stock will come. Thinking about Sony W700B now. GIRIAS gave a price quote of 60K.

why all of a sudden this shortage i got my E6D in 51k during diwali..and not i see dealers are asking for 54 n 55...why

What was the original MRP of the TV when you bought it? It's 65K now. All the manufacturers have increased the price. May be they knew it much before than us that the prices has to come down effective new budget.

Hello Anilk..!!
AFAIK prices increased post diwali & that's the reason for high price of E6D now. New lineup is about to come in April/May & I guess that's why sudden shortage.
How has been your experience so far with this tv. Would be really helpful. Does not being IPS panel is of any concern?

tv is fantastic...n abt IPS panel my viewing distance is abt 8feet and 1 peraon watching so not really experianced anything wrong..although i have LG at my home town which has IPS panel..doesn't seems to be too different.
one thing i have concluded for normal person difference of 5-15% in technology improvement is a grey area...which they would never be able differentiate...so people should give more focus towards ease of use and affordablity than buying stuff with geeky adjectives/features just because there are intellectuals who endorse it

PQ is not same on both panels. I compared the two multiple times and was blown away by the PQ of ET60D. I didn't buy it because of 3D, but for better PQ. Something in this TV makes the picture look very fluid/next to zero motions blur : plasma like. Demo both and see the difference. Well some experts say the 600 Mhz backlit technology is a farce and nothing over 60 mhz (whatever refresh rate) makes a difference but I believe in what i SEE. The downside is that because of that feature sometimes you will feel that the movie is playing is fast forward mode (for a second or two) though it happens with rips only not blu-rays. Well the good side is superb PQ with zero motion blur and that feature can be turned off-min-mid-max so ...
PS: Once I took a demo if ET60D I did not bother to demo Sony 700B (again) It was love at first sight and i spent 11k more for the ET60D. And yes you get 3D as well lol.

et60 has better colours.better motion handling and better viewing angle than the e6....ips panels are known for these advantages....et60 has the best blacks for an ips panel when compared to the ips panels of its competitors....

Does et6 suffer from backlight bleeding in a darkroom I.e. completely dark room on DARK SCENES.
settings are in mus for both brightness and backlight.

For E6D there's mild backlight bleed at the bottom corners as per HDTV test. But their test conditions are extreme and I didn't see anyone complain about the backlight bleed yet. It's very hard to avoid backlight bleed and dirty effect in LED TVs.

That's true. I don't notice any black degradation. PQ on non IPS panels on the other hand are too sharp to be honest.

@ raj_krish

E5 doesnt have smart features(maybe u don't bother on smart :) ). But yes I found the picture quality much better in e6 than e5. And of course E5 is much cheaper than E6. And I am not sure but i think e5 is an older model. Maybe other forum members can guide

Prolougue: "I was recently on a mission to obtain a TV. So i did an extensive research first starting what size i need to look for and plasma vs LED. So on research i was hell bent on plasma and looking for budget plasmas like LG 42PN5400 etc for 35 k. Well then it thus happened that i stumbled upon some croma vouchers for 8k and decided to go for a bigger budget one. My interaction with others and the people in the field all recommended plasma, but it all ended like " what if plasma screws up- no replacement, then break ins , bright room, wall mounting headaches and then i decided LED it be with less hassles. I had seen plasma wen i went for demos and yes i totally accept, no beating it with motion flow or the blacks, outstanding. But then none of the plasma in the range of 60k have full hd. And i love watching HD videos on youtube. :D
i started my reserach in sony, panasonic and LG. Didn't look at samsung as i have few friends who had the lottery won with Samsung( u know what i am talking about). ;)
I initially thought of 32 inch tv, but in the era of mine is bigger than urs and u always get over with the screen size u have and wants to get bigger screens decided 42 inch it be.
My short listed candidates where: Sony 700B, E6D, LG LN5710. My budget 50k around out of my pocket cost (note: i had croma vouchers which will needs to bring my out of pocket cost to 50k)

(Sorry I am not sure, if I can do multiple posts continuing on same subject one after the another, I am doing this to give a logical flow and not to bore the reader going through multiple paras in same post. Someone please guide :) )
Demo1: Went to croma, started looking at few models like 39B6D, Sony 40R452A, LG 42ln 5400 and the models as I said above. After some mixing around I shortlisted decided lets have those smart tv ;) ( and the PQ on these smart ones 700b, e6 and 5710 was definitely a little better than its non smart counter parts)

Same thing happened with me. I wanted a basic TV but PQ on smart TVs are way better than basic TVs so had to buy a smart and a 3D TV because of better PQ

I like watching you tube documentaries on my laptop (it doesn't have an HDMI out so the tv have to have smart fucntions) esp the full HD ones, so what harm in watching it king size ( and the PQ on these smart ones 700b, e6 and 5710 was definitely a little better than its non smart counter parts)
After much viewing (soaps, sports- thanks that asia cup was on, cartoons, movies on SD and HD) and played around the settings following was my initial thoughts:

Sony 700B : Sony is sony as they say and my heart was "y not sony" Checked price around 65 k , no discount other than some tata employee discount.

LG LN 5710: Well it has all the whistles , dual core processor excellent sound, cheaper ( was quoted at 63 k but will get it for 57k or lesser ) IPS panel- I liked the colour on LG as it looked better poised and the motions definitely smooth enough.

E6D: It looked a beauty with thin bezel but all round a decent TV and picture looked natural. some where near range as of LG

Let me break it up in areas on each with the eyes of a novice buyer like me:

HD channels:
I loved the colour on sony , reason?- The colours looked very pumped up or artificial , nevertheless like any novice buyer (which I think I still am ;) ) it looked totally like it had a different PQ compared to other panels. But then watched a tamil star Vijay's song in HD channel and well it was way too artificially coloured for me to digest. LG and Panny looked ok and normal on the HD, though LG looked a bit less sharp as panny ( maybe the IPS)

Then came asia cup telecast, Sony had the after presentation guys face so detailed, we could make out that the guy had beard stubs, not clean shaved :D so much detail, well it maybe annoying to some though. Lg looked with very balanced colours thanks to the IPS again , panny looked a bit lacking in brightness,( but maybe it was hanged above my eyesight line and being a VA panel I may have lesser viewing angle). Then I noticed something on panny which I couldnt see on sony or LG, the grass on the field, I could make out each grass strand on a close up shot, where as sony looked ok, LG didnt at all have the detail - looked very bland in the grass shot. Panny definitely had the eye for detail unlike sony which was creating detail on skin tones.

Moved to HD Nat Geo, LG >>>> To my Horror an old bald Caucasian guys face was red as if he was strangulated by someone, his head looked like a red balloon too much over saturation of colours. Sony looked nice , but again the detail is a turn off ( maybe u can switch off some setting) the face creases and each facial features (all the cuts and the moles on face the twin jaw) were so visible that it looked bit annoying. Panny looked to handle it balanced not too much detail like sony and very natural skin tone unlike LG

SD:

Well LG finds the detail lacking again , the colours look smooth and the motion balanced, but simply put the sharpness does lack , maybe its the blacks on IPS panel ( I did play around the setting unsuccessfully). Sony was decent and yes handles motion much much better than panny and LG thanks to 200 HZ. But Panny of the lot again balanced , though it has slight issues with motion on side by side comparison on sports channels, nothing that u may notice on watched individually, but only side by side comparison. The cartoons ( I like watching occasional Disney movies English channels) were better in sony and panny , sony slight looked better with better colours, panny being natural and LG again IPS panel letting it down on the clarity and sharpness.

Conclusions from Demo 1:
The guy on the shop is an LG employee and yes he was hard selling me the LG 5710, then sony 700b . But I learn by that time that no further discounts on Sony possible, Panny and LG its possible to get discounts on MRP. So sony had to go, and I was not much disappointed though, as sony did have a lot more artificial thing going on with skin tones and colours and was too bright. The things I liked about sony was the way it handles motion. So it was a fight between LG5710 vs Panny E6D
:D

Demo 2 after a week on demo 1 : Before this demo I did again research on the net thanks to Hifivision thread ( this one). My heart was with so much +ve reviews around E6. Also I think I have virtually read all posts on google on e6, hd test uk, tech review, techradar, some French and german sites :D , avs forums and god knows what all review sites. The only thing standing against it was the silver bezel I would have preferred the black and the lack of brightness ( but I suspected that the guy who demoed the tv was from LG though he works on croma floor) and high chance that the tv setting is meddled to show LG is better than panny (psst: I know I am just trying some conspiracy theory to buy e6 and blaming it on some poor sales guy :o )
I was initially waiting to buy wen the new models come in april may, but then the prices may not be as low for a 42 inch as now for a new model and then I need to wait for reviews. I didnt have a tv at home and was missing my 1 hr show @ 9 which is better than 24 hrs of tv news shows ( u know whose show I am talking about ). And my better half was missing her romedy movies, we decided to take the plunge

Called Storemanager " come in fast we have the last piece of 42 E6D in the warehouse for all of Bangalore" I trust him as he is some one I know vey personally . Rushed on the car vroom vroom , anyone overtaking me I suspected to be someone who is going to buy that last piece of E6D. :ohyeah:

saw the same less bright panny next to LG , I was in two minds, LG or Panny. I took the remote and changed the colour schemes. MAGIC. Panny looked more or less very much like LG now. So it was after all some setting which made panny look less bright than LG, but yes being IPS LGs colours are balanced than Panny. But panny aint bad at all infact awesome on SD and definitely more sharper than LG. So booked it with a stabilizer and as I was reading about panny warranty not having panel covered etc in this forum decided to go for croma extended warranty for 2 more years for 3 k. So finally I purchased a tv with sub 50 k out of pocket cost ( after using vouchers of 8 k )
