Panasonic V20 Owners Thread (Settings, Problems, Impressions, Questions)

Thanks Vramak....Do I need to connect my PC to the Plasma for doing the black & white test?...I dont seem to find Professional 1 under Picture menu > Viewing mode

Regards,

No, you can just copy those pics to a USB stick and adjust settings while viewing those pics on the TV. Use your DVD/BD player to view the pics as you may have to adjust output settings on the DVD/BD player as well.

You can enable professional mode in the settings menu. By default it will be disabled.

@vramak

I would like to ask a straight question :-

I am interested in buying a 42" TV for watching Cable Tv through tatasky and playing video games and occationally movies, SHOULD I GO FOR THE PANASONIC 42V20D ?

Or are there better options available ?

My budget is max 70k...

Really looking forward to your reply.

Hello Everyone :)

I went through the entire forum and zeroed in on Panasonic 42" V20D.

My purpose is mainly TV viewing through Tata Sky, playing video games along with occasional movie watching.

I am getting Panasonic 42V20D for 66k at my place.

Should I go for it ?OR Are there still better option available ??? My budget is 70k max, would prefer to keep it closer to 60k though.

Do you people think that even the X20 could serve my purpose and I could save half the amount for the home theater system ???;):licklips:

Okay I posted this as a separate thread but I guess I will get more apt replies here so I am posting my question here once again.

Plz help me out

I am going to buy a plasma tv and would be extremely thankful if you can help me choose among the following.

1. Panasonic TH-42V20

2.LG 50PK550

3. Samsung PS50C650

or do you want me to wait for the new line up of Tvs which are going to be introduced in a couple of months?

Whats the final word on the V20? Go or a No-go?

^

It may be worthwhile to wait for OLED TVs :)

Made in Japan for lower price due to FTAA maybe?

<Dreaming>

Cheers

Should I wait till April for buying Panasonic 42V20D. As the panel is Made in Japan, will the FTAA could have much impact.

Or should I NOT go for this model at all

Please help, I am totally confused because of following reasons:

1. Some people complained that SD viewing in Panasonic is not good (or only OK). Samsung models are said to have better SD viewing.
I have Digital Cable connection. DTH Dish cannot be fixed because of Apartment facing. So viewing HD channels is out of my equation.
I have a PS3 and also want to enjoy FULL HD contents.

2. Panasonic 2011 plasma models have two new panels - Infinite Black 2 (for non-3D) and Infinite Black Pro 2 (for 3D).
Indian model 42V20D is Infinite Black (equivalent of 2009-2010 G20 US series)
So as of 2011, it seems that we are having inferior panel.

3. In some posts it was written that Panasonic might discontinue 3 year warranty.

4. My viewing distance is 10 feet, so 40'' is minimum recommended size (maximum is 60''). So should I go for above 42'' for better HD viewing.

As of now I am getting the best price of 61K at Vivek's, JP Nagar, Bangalore.

SD viewing is acceptable, you need to understand in most cases including mine the views expressed on this forum are personal. You can ask the store guy to show you some SD stuff so that you can make up your mind whether to go with this set or something else you have demoed.

HDTV's (lcd, led plasma's ..etc ) were not designed for SD so its a well known fact that it will not match a CRT clarity. Think of it in this way, when you try to play an mp3 encoded in 64 kbps on a denon or marantz system and you expect the receiver to provide you pristine clear music :D, that not possible, infact all the deficiencies will get highlighted.

At 10 feet 40 or 42 inch will be good. About the 3 yrs warranty, 2011 models from Panny may no longer carry that is what even i have heard. but if you pick one of the 2010 model you should still get one , or you can haggle with the dealer.

In Bangalore atleast they have reigned in on the price so 61k should be a good price but you can haggle to have another 1 or 2k reduced.

In the end all that matter is what looks good according to you in your budget..

Hello there,

I picked up my on 21st Feb 2011 & the following are my observations,

Playing SD content via DTH:

V20 displays SD content better than most of the LEDs, LCDs & Ofcourse the samsung plasma as well. After 1 year of research I finally picked up a V20 only because other brands always fell flat when it came to picture quality (Price was never a constrain for me). However LG Plasmas, LCDs & LED have superior motion flow when compared to Panasonic & they are very very easy on the wallet as well. But none of the brand shops or the retailers in Bangalore have the 58PK50 or any of its variants for sale & dont have a clue about its availability.

Size & Warranty:

For a viewing distance of 10ft 40 or 42 inchers will look a little small, but again its a personal preference. What seems tiny to me may appear big for someone else. My 50 incher does not appear big enough anymore & I feel that I should have picked up a 63 incher. My panel came with a 1+2 Year warranty & I am sure you would also get the same if you could pick it up before the world cup.

Regards,
Praveen

Congrats on your purchase , 60k is a good price within Bangalore city limits. No special break in period is required with this set, use it the way you want to but try to keep contrast within 50 .... Also a HD media player like WDTV or Asus O play mini will go very well with this set as far are movies go. This thread has sufficient information am sure you will find it worthwhile ;)

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
