Panasonic V20 Owners Thread (Settings, Problems, Impressions, Questions)

Hi,
This is my first post in this topic. I am planning to go in for this P42V20D tomorrow for a quoted price of 60K; My other nearest competitor was Samsung C650 40incher with a quoted price of 62K.

Hope I am making the right choice?

Also-
- I have heard that Netgear wifi dongle works with this tv. Is that correct?
- I am planning to use it with the Tata Sky+ HD PVR (launched yesterday for 3999/-, will be getting it by today evening)
- I am also going to use it with my PlayonHD DVR 76120 (with 2TB HDD) through its HDMI port
- I will be outputting sound through My Yamaha V457 AVR with 6.1 setup (Main driver speakers are my 15 year old Woodstock Optimus 300 MKII [havnt heard anything like these even in the newer top end imported model] and rest 4 are Sony speakers from my old sound system)

I hope I will not have any issues with my above planned setup?

Some feedbacks on the above (today itself) would be most thankful (especially from vramak and others)...

Dear dkaile - By going for Panny V20D you are making the right choice... I bought this TV couple of weeks ago and believe me its the best in class... I also got it for 60K... Are you getting any freebies?

I can respond to one of your questions... I switched over to Tata Sky+ HD PVR... The SD quality is OK and not very great... I am yet to activate my HD channels... I think Tata Sky does not do justice to the images and clarity that this TV can produce...

Hi Guys,
I'm from Bangalore and planning to purchase P42V20D. I looked at couple of showrooms and they are quoting price of 65K after all discount. I see people getting it at 60K. Has anyone got it at that price in Bangalore?

Thanks,
Nishant

Finally changed decision and went as below -

I was about to buy P42V20D but chose to go with Samsung LED 5 series UA40C5000 MRP 71,900/- got it for 42,800 at Gaffar Market, Delhi and I'm not regretting the decision after watching Avatar in Full HD rip on mkv file through my Playon HD DVR... I recommend people to give a try to this option... I saved a cool 17K (over 42V20) and am really impressed by the impeccable picture quality...

@TaureanBull
It carries a Thai International warranty though I dont know how useful it can be in India; The seller has given me a 2 month "seller warranty"
@kittu1977
obviously its grey market, but well worth it seeing the price differential...

@kittu1977 In fact I went for 2xSamsung LED
5 series UA40C5000 40" MRP 71,900/- got for 42,800/- from Gaffar; both supports WiFi+Ethernet port
& 5 series UA32C5000 32" MRP 52,000/- got for 32,750/- from Gaffar
and bought 3rd for a friend - Sony Bravia BX400 40" Full HD MRP 57000/- got for 31,400/-

as I clarified before, yes it is; however seeing the price benefit (17K) over v20d and some inherent defects of plasma technology and rapid advances being made in LED technology, I preferred LED over Plasma; I checked both the TV's with the same source and found the LED to be better though by a very close margin... And I trust my eyes more than I trust all the reviews out there...

Whats the pwr consumption ?

My main intention was never to save power but to get a better picture quality at better prices... and there I think the latest LED's are gaining rapidly seeing the deal I got...

just curious, do you do gaming on your LED? How is the experiance?

I think I have matured a little to do gaming any more... lolz.. I am mainly a movie guy and into HD video and now would like to enjoy HD sports through tata Sky+ HD PVR.... however I have heard that the gaming experience is better on LED's than on Plasmas...

Between Sony and Sammy the Input lag in the latter can be on the higher side, its better to take your console and test it out.

Input lag in Plasma is nil, one of the reason i went for it so that i can pair it with my ps3 ..

If you average daily run of the TV is not of the order of 8/9/10+ hours then you will not save much over a 5 yr period in terms of power.

On the other hand, this will make a HUGE difference if you are watching television on your inverter. I find it quite interesting that most people are ignoring this very important point. The reality in most cities in India is that you will end up with power cuts several days a month, and will most likely have an inverter for power backup. The inverter in most homes is usually just sufficient to run a few lights and fans for 7-8 hours. If you are watching TV on top of this, a power hungry TV will finish off your inverter in no time at all. This fact alone becomes a deal breaker, if you think about it.

+1 :thumbsup:, main reason for me to think about LEDs

I totally agree to you on this point and have re-iterated the same in several posts on this forum. I read that the 46Ex710 in Eco mode consumes as low as 60Watts of power. I think even my present 21-inch CRT consumes same power if not more. But looking at several heated discussions in this forums about LCD vs Plasma I am beginning to think whether I would be missing the real flavour of picture if I am not going to take Plasma - Myth vs realty redefined.
