Panasonic V20 Owners Thread (Settings, Problems, Impressions, Questions)

Just bought V20 y'day, I've a doubt. While running the break-in images, what setting should I use? Right now I am using Nomral mode:
Contrast 20, Brightness 0, Color 25, Sharpness 16, all other settings OFF.

Congrats rejeeb, how much did you pay for it. Also if you have not picked up a digital stabilizer for your V20, please do so ASAP.

Now coming to your query, th V20 doesn't need any special break-in as such when compared to the yesteryear plasma's but then it helps in settling the plasma particles down evenly at least that's what the tech pundits say, just ensure that you have your contrast below 50. I had it at 45 initially for the first 200 hours or so, now i tuned it to 35 which works fine even during daytime. Brightness at 0 is fine and u can slowly reduce it when required for better blacks, color and sharpness can be to your preference. Just avoid the dynamic mode which makes it look like a pseudo led display, the whole purpose of buying a plasma gets beaten then :D

Enjoy your set :)

Got 50" V20 last week for 97K from Panasonic Brand shop in Koramangala Bangalore. Amazing picture clarity. It is powered from Servo stabilizer.

hi all,

i have been using 42 v20 since august last year.

i am satisfied with the picture quality in sd content and it is awsome in hd content.

of late i have noticed that while watching sd content(standard dish tv) that there appears some vertical lines(not sharp lines) running from top to bottom at an angle slanted towards the left side of the screen, however this problem appears only in sd,not in hd content.

have you anybody experienced this problem.

pls let me know what could be the possible reason.

thanks,
dijeesh.

could be the problem with input(dish tv), check by giving some other signal to the same input port

Paid for the 50V20D today. Will be delivered in 2 days. Now I need to buy a HD dth connection. Am confused- TataSky has just 7 HD channels, Airtel claims all channels upscaled to HD level, some people on this forum reported that Reliance BIG & Dish TV are best. Just a couple of pertinent questions:
1. Which provider has the best (and maximum channels) HD content, both audio & video?
2. Does it provide equally good SD content? If not, who provides best SD content suitable for a 50 inch tv? (SD is important 'coz approx 50% viewing time in the family will be for hindi entertainment channels)

I will appreciate if you can share your experience on this. Need to decide by the time the TV arrives. Thanks in advance.

Naushad

donot fall for the worthless "upscaled to HD level" scam. As of today TS is best for HD because of the exclusive presence of ALL four star HD channels, ipl in hd etc
for sd rdtv has got the pq advantage, but their software (menu) sucks and hd service dont have dolby 5.1,

Hi Members,
Is P42V20D replaced by P42V30? As dealers say, it has some internet features like youtube et all and is priced less.
Can experts confirm its quality. Would it be worth buying?

Thanks
anand

The P42V30 does not exist currently in our market :)

What you mentioned (Youtube, skype, picasa) is part of "Viera cast" which most Panasonic TV's with Viera branding will have it as a feature, It will not be exclusive to the 2011 models.

I found the media playback quality of V20 using USB or stock Media Server is not satisfactory.

Yesterday I compared few movies by playing from PS3 connected to V20 and Servioo as Media Server running on my laptop.

The quality was superb. I was able to see the True potential of V20.

But when I played the same movies using USB or stock Media Server, the image was washed out, less sharpness, incorrect aspect ratio, and sound output was also low.

The difference in image quality is really huge.

My question is, this the limitation of V20 or the PS3 is superior to decode the content. (One guess, may be the upscaling capability of PS3 is much better than V20)

Or do I need to perform some tweaks to get the same playback quality from USB or stock Media Server.

Please share your experiences.

USB playback of the v20 is hardly a selling point but the display panel and its clarity makes up for all the gimmicks it lacks. Wrt to media playing abilities the PS3 is technically by far more capable and superior than the V20 as a media player.

Infact try playing a proper DVD on your regular dvd player and try popping it in the PS3 you will prefer the PS3 ;)

I agree with DVD quality difference, using PS3 and DVD player, PS3 wins by huge margin. Feels like Bluray level quality.

OK say USB playback is not the selling point, as V20 doesnt support many formats.

But what about the quality when playing directly through media server. and V20?

Its a whole new level of visual experience after using PS3 as intermediate system.

Worst case, Even a not so good CD rip looks like a OK DVD print.

I am seriously having second thoughts about buying a network media player, as I feel it cant meet the quality level of PS3.

The only prob with PS3 is that it cant play all formats, unless u jb it and install additional software in the PS3.

I hate SONY for removing Other OS option from PS3, imagine the capabilities of this machine if linux option was left intact.

True Manu.

You can use Servioo/PS3 Media Server to transcode many unsupported formats.

Its working fine, only that I am not using wireless connection. I found jitter/lag while using wireless 'b' connection.

PS3 and my laptop are wired to 100Mbps Router.

Sorry Hifians to deviate from the intended purpose of this thread.

Final conclusion is, by using PS3 (or any other dedicated Media player) V20 gives superb/amazing picture quality when compared to playback quality directly from USB/DLNA/Upnp.
