Panasonic V20 Owners Thread (Settings, Problems, Impressions, Questions)

My V20 displays dancing pixels on all picture modes with +3 Brightness. I have put a full black slide and adjusted the brightness to +3, result: lots of dancing pixels (like a raster on the CRT TV). I am wondering if this is normal.

I have also observed lots of dancing pixels while playing movies/Cable TV. This is not consistent but looks like depends on the picture being displayed on other parts of the screen.

Ordered the 42v20 today. Will be delivered and installed tomorrow. After (way too) much deliberation I finally settled for this model.

Thanks guys :yahoo:

Any recommendations on where to get a good deal on a 42V20 in NCR? Also if anyone is interested in group buying let me know.

I am still wondering if somebody can test this.
Thank you.

Dancing pixels are seen in my TV too. Dithering is the culprit.

Both LCDs and plasmas use dithering especially for darker shades of color. Try playing the same movie in both your V20 and your laptop. Even in your laptop screen you'll see dithering in the darker scenes. In the V20 dithering is more noticeable because the pixels 'dance'.

Just make sure your calibrate your settings such that you don't see any dancing pixels on a fully black image.

Also make sure you don't mistake film noise for dithering. Try pausing the film and if the pixels stop dancing, then it is film noise and not dithering. Film noise is an inherent quality of movies captured on film.

And I am observing black horizontal stripes of 1mm when I play black image slide in picture modes other than Dynamic mode. In Dynamic mode it really shows full back without any glitches.

Can anybody observe this and post the results. Of course you need to do this testing in the night to observe reproducing the black levels.

Thank you.

To keep this thread alive, here is an update.

I watch a news channels frequently, guess what, the logo of the news channel looks like burnt-in. I never watched this channel for more than 15 minutes at a time. And before 100 hours break-in period I was watching the TV at Zoom 3 (no logo visible). I was running the break-in slides till I cross 200 hours.

Again do not get scared, this logo can be seen at 8PM (night), with lights off, when played a black image slide and when you stand close to the panel and look for any images that might have retained.

Given this I tend to believe that the burn-in is real and might affect if you are not careful. And white logo seems to be more dangerous.

i might have scared lot of ppl by now asdflkg :D , not me coz before i saw this post i've already decided to go for LCD :p

Trying playing a different channel for a minute and put on the black slide. You won't see the logo.

What you saw is not image retention or burn-in. It's phosphoresence. You'll see it even in CRTs.

And by the way, I've not run break-in slides, I've been using contrast at 83 since 5 hours of usage, I don't take any precautions about burn-in, I watch letterboxed and pillarboxed movies often, I play games with static HUDs for hours together. No signs of image retention yet. White icons do leave phosphoresence. But that gets cleared within a minute of playing a movie. And it's not even visible except when watching a black image in darkness.

Yeah, I posted this after many checks. I have run the break in slides for 90 minutes, and then tested, I still see the logo in the above mentioned conditions.

I am not sure if you have tried to check your TV, given my situation wherein I have used the TV rather conservatively, it may be that you could observe some images.

However as I mentioned this is not causing any problem and may go off over a period of time. But this makes me to believe that burn-in may occur and should be careful.

Has anyone tried connecting their HTPC to this set ?

Will an HTPC be better alternative to a media player for this set ?

50V20 seems to have dropped to 103.5k in Chennai. Going to try for 95k next !
That will put it just 8-10k north of a Sammy 46C650. Price parity if you ask me considering the size difference and say an extra 4k for PQ !

Lucky you! Don't think we'll ever get that price in Mumbai.

CES 2011 is just couple of months away. Can't wait to see what Panasonic comes up with.

A 50" TV with V20 capability at the price of 50C550 (<70k) will be the best replacement for my 42B450.

Time is the variable. Iam sure it will be a reality 2 years from now on the diwali day. +/- 1 year.

I bought one for 102k in Lajpatnagar, Delhi :)

Are you kidding? Bombay, despite the Octroi, still gets the lowest price for most of the Panasonic models.

You can get the 50V20 for 1L, and if you push, you can get it for as low as 97k.

I best quote I got in B'ore for the 50V20 about a month ago was 1.03L

Satan,

Yes, you are right. I checked out the V20 and thr price is definitely lower and can be dargged a bit downwards too.

Btw, thanks for mentioning "Bombay" - just the sweet smell of that name - how I miss it.

hi everyone this is my first post on this thread

i am a owner of 50v20 for around 20 days. since five days there is was a terrible redness from both sides of the panel every picture has this slight redness overlay and comes out clearly while showing dark scenes and bright green pallet kind of scenes. slowly slowly this redness has covered most of the areas of the panel i wish i had a camera so i can post some pics. i took so much care of this TV for 200hrs i used zoom 3 contrast 0 brightness 0 and played collection of 120 break-in images too during nights through USB so i can complete my 200hrs i also used to keep air conditioning on during hot daytime's. do any owners here experienced this? what must be the fault? i called Panasonic service today they will be visiting my place. only 20 days and i am experiencing this :( its really sad please help. thank u
