Yamaha AVR owners thread

Then you should get the sound! I am not sure but Please check if a different audio input is assigned to The HDMI input .

Unfortunately I am not. Will try out some stuff tomorrow. Can the HDMI cable make any difference? The display on the AVR also changes to No Signal strangely.

Some clarifications needed regarding the power specs of rx-v375 and rx-v475 from the owners.
As per the specifications in Yamaha India website the power output:

RX-V375
Overview and spec page has the same numbers @ 6 ohms
Rated Output Power (20Hz-20kHz, 2ch driven) 70W (6ohms, 0.09% THD)

RX-V475
The main page:
80W per Channel (6 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 0.09 % THD, 2 ch driven )

Spec
Rated Output Power (20Hz-20kHz, 2ch driven) 80W (8ohms, 0.09% THD)

Is it a mistake in 475 specification to have same 80W @6ohms and 8ohms?
Which is correct?

Would like to know the will there be significant power difference and build quality between 375 and 475. The price difference is around 10k ( 28k and 38k as listed in HTStore) Do not want to spend 10k more for airplay, networking features etc if the sound signature is almost same.

8390 will be easy to drive for your receiver. When it says 6 ohm; it means 6 and higher. In fact Yamaha used to package the speaker with 3065 and sell.

Yesterday i contact Yamaha Music Square Chennai. I askd about the support of htr 3066 to 8390 tallboys. They said some technical terms and finally said 'no'. I addition they said that htr3066 will not support any tallboy spkrs. As i have a desire with tallboy spkrs, I am frustrated after hearing this. My fate..

How does one assign a different audio input to a particular HDMI connection? I have a strange situation where I am trying to add a DAC to the chain

I have a WDTV - HDMI - AVR connection. Now I am trying to add a DAC to this so that I can use the optical out of WDTV to pass the signal via the dac to my receiver. Strangely WDTV can only pass the audio signals through either optical OR HDMI. So the moment I switch my inputs on the AVR to listen to audio through the DAC, my video output is also lost.

Any suggestions?

Have gone through the manual again. Will have to try a few things when I go back. I'm feeling a little embarrassed now to ask something as basic as this!

I am trying to use a optical/coax DAC in my chain with my AVR (473) as the power amplifier. I am trying to figure out whether I can get WDTV to output video through HDMI and stream the digital via the optical. Strangely WDTV does not do both simultaneously, so I'll always have to keep the DAC on even when I am watching a movie where I don't want to use the external DAC.

I am afraid that RX-V473 may not have that option.Earlier RX-V4** models did not have that option.Confirm the manual.

On the remote : Selection by pressing Enter Key --> On Screen --> Input-->HDMI1 ( or any other input you want to change)---> Here press the Up Key instead of Enter Key-->Scroll to Audio In --> Press Enter Key ---> Scroll through to the required Audio Source and press Enter Key . You are done and have assigned a different Audio Source to that HDMI input. So when ever you select this HDMI input the Video input will be from the HDMI and audio input will be from the assigned Audio source above.

This will solve your problem of routing WD audio through DAC and watching the Video.

This may not be there in 475 model.I remember one of FM had similar problem with 4** earlier model where no option to assign audio.

My 471 had this option of Audio assign.
You can choose any available audio channel for any HDMI input.
For WDTV (gen II) I think there are custom firmwares which can set the output on both HDMI and Optical simultaneously. The latest WDTV live hub supports both with stock firmware.

That's strange. If WDTV live hub supports it then WDTV Live Plus should also support it but it doesn't.

I need to try this again over the weekend. Even the settings actually say very explicitly - 'Digital pass-through via HDMI only' and 'Digital pass-through via Optical only'. They actually added the 'only' quite explicitly in there.

I am very sure that HTR 3065 used to come as a package with same speakers alongwith NSP-60. In fact I have heard same set-up at hypercity; I did not buy it as I do not have space for towers.

Check this for confirmation, http://www.hifivision.com/surround-amplifiers-receivers/27163-yamaha-rx-v373.html.

I managed to test the 'assign input' feature and it works as expected. I feel a bit stupid to never have seen that feature earlier :)

Happens - even I din't realise it for the first month or so. The natural / logical action is to press Enter key and not up key. It's Yamaha's bug :)
