Yamaha AVR owners thread

Thanx adi_vastava..
I do som research in net. If u hav time, give some suggestions about any other tower spkrs except 8390. Thanx again..

HTR-3066 drives 8390 easily, I had auditioned in reliance digital. I am using floor standing speakers with rx-v375 and it drives them beautifully. (HTR-3066 is same as rx-v375).
Check out Jamo S426 and Pioneer SP-FS52 too. Both are very good for the price approx 21-22K.

SP-FS52 - Andrew Jones Designed Floorstanding Loudspeakers, Ideal for 2 Channel Listening and 5.1 Surround Sound Systems | Pioneer Electronics USA

Hi ach82002,
My htr-3066 is only 6ohms per channel. Will it drive SP-FS52 smoothly?

Yes it will. Sp-fs52 is also 6ohms and sensitivity 87db.
I am using the same combo, rx-v375 with sp-fs52, happy with the performance. I too had auditioned all 3 mentioned above and finally got the pioneer. Sweet sounding, even highs too are not taxing on ears during extended listening sessions. For late night stereo listening I keep volume at -40db. So I guess this should give you a good idea that htr-3066 (rx-v375) drives sp-fs52 comfortably.

I recently purchased YAMAHA YHT 196

I play my movies using a Lenovo G560 Laptop...
And for video output i use Lg Ld340 Tv.

What i have done is i send d video and audio from my laptop to A/V receiver..and then the video output is given to my tv from the a/v receiver. Both these connection are done with HDMI cables

I used Cyberlink Power DVD 13 for movie playback. The whole setup is fine. But when i play a video it plays for 2-3 min and then d video gets stuck on my tv but d audio continues to play.. No matter what video content i play this is what happens...
Can Someone Please Help Me Out!

Seems software related issue.
Does the same happen when any video is played in any other player like VLC or windows media?
How is the TV used as display "exteneded desktop" or "clone" or use TV as primary display?
What graphics card is the Laptop having? Intel or nVidia?

Try these:
1st:Check any other player than Cyberlink
2nd: If it freezes with other player too then try using TV as Primary display (Fn+F7 i guess) and see is the video freezes.

Help! Yamaha YST-SW80 Active Subwoofer Problem

Hi everyone, new to this site.

I have a Yamaha YST-SW80 active subwoofer (an old timer! with active servo processing) that has been acting up lately...it won't seem to stay "on". Basically, everything is plugged in correctly, but the power LED will turn off immediately after I turn it on. The amp sounds like its on (but the LED will be off) , and when i push the power button to turn it off, it sounds like the amp turns off. I get no signal at all. I'm wondering if there is a short somewhere in the wiring?

Also, it was working for several years with my 5.1 system with an Onkyo TX-SR607 receiver. I've tried connecting it straight from a computer via the RCA input jacks; still same problem. The sub also has an auto power on/off switch, but makes no difference when switched on or off.

If anyone can help me out, or point me in the right direction, id greatly appreciate it!! Thanks :)

Have encountered a major issue with my WDTV Live Streaming player but since I am not sure whether it's an issue with the AVR or the player, I am posting this here too.

My connections are as follows

WDTV - (HDMI) - Yamaha 473 - (HDMI) - TV

The WDTV is configured to pass digital audio through HDMI. Yesterday I switched on my WDTV after around 4-5 days. All of a sudden, I noticed that after the initial WDTV logo startup screen (the one with the clouds), the screen kept flickering as if the HDMI is losing connection. I tried the following steps and none of them worked.

1. Changed the HDMI cable. Same behavior
2. Change the HDMI input on the AVR. Same behavior
3. Keep the AVR in standby mode - video works. The moment I switch the AVR, I lose the HDMI signal. It keeps flashing on and off with a lot of 'snow screen' in between
4. Soft reset the WDTV. Same behavior
5. Connect WDTV directly to the TV. Video works fine
6. To double check the AVR, I connected by BDP to the same HDMI input. That HDMI video signal works fine both in standby and otherwise.

I am not quite sure whether the issue is with the AVR or WDTV. Unfortunately I don't any option to check this thing out on a different AVR.

Can you guys suggest anything else?

I am going to try out the following today
1. Hard reset WDTV. Not sure whether this would help
2. Connect HDMI directly to TV and get the digital audio via the optical out.

This is the last solution I want to try as I don't want to have the video directly going to the TV.

Checkout the pioneer india website and locate the dealer in your city , its comes with bundled 5.1 , but dealers will give it split , price would be around 22k , I had bought SP bs22 , cs22 from dni bangalore and using with rx-v375

K friend.. What about the price of sp fs52? and Where can i purchase this?

I am using 473 so the sound signature will not be drastically different. Yammys are quite neutral and do not color the sound much. I find them quite good for both. The older denons were a bit warm but this is not so

Got my Yamaha RX-V475 and running them with Wharfedale MS-100 speakers.

What's the first thing that is to be done after setting up the receiver? I haven't tried setting up the YPAO yet. Not very satisfied by the sound, especially the surround.

Try YPAO, it helps. Also not all tracks have good sound for the rear channel. Try watching Transformers - Dark of the moon. That one has a brilliant soundtrack

+1 to that. Surrounds are most difficult to set up. Seating position, speaker position etc all matter a lot. The presence & real effect of surrounds is felt only in very few tracks, like Star War.

What should be the ideal directions the speakers? I have placed them around 8 feet apart on my rear wall and the rear wall is right behind my actual listening position. Should I angle them towards my ears or direct them towards each other? Having said that, they are wharfedale satellites after all.

Angle them towards your ears ideally. Give them the best chance to throw their best output towards you.
