Yamaha AVR owners thread

Ans to 3- wait ,watch & demo.
Demo I do understand but why wait and watch? Honestly I am not even convinced about a demo for a simple reason that I have not yet decided on the speakers. Most probably I'll go in for the Pioneer set that we demoed at Avenue Sound, but Fairdeal (where I feel I'll get the lowest price) may not have those, so demo of this AVR is going to be a moot point. I've read quite a few good things about this AVR. Santy has 471 and I am sure he must have researched the hell out before finalizing it. 473 may not be very different, would it?

Ans # 2: First I doubt whether the newer series 473 model is network enabled. Even my 571 series does not have the network capability only the 671 has. And coming to the wifi capability to play music over NAS yes this can be possible with I think upnp enabled in the NAS and a compatible wifi adaptor from Yamaha. All this should be possible provided it has network support.

Thanks

The 474 is indeed network capable. Even if an AVR is network capable, would it require a Wifi adaptor? Does it not come along with it? How much does this cost approximately? I am planning to set up a asus n66u based NAS in the future and it's DLNA compatible (which 473 also is).

Thanks Spiro.
Have already read through all of them. I am still not able to find any link where they've mentioned the use of a Wifi dongle instead of a ethernet wire. Am trying to find cost from Fairdeal. Beats99's contact number is incorrect on their site as no one is picking up. I am trying to avoid 110v if possible otherwise Avenue Sound would be the best option

Thanks a ton Spiro.

This number works indeed. They've moved to RMall now. They'll get back to me with prices. Any idea about whether they bargain and generally offer a good price? Any other dealers that you reckon that I can approach.

Update - 34K for 473 !!!
This is quite high compared to the Fairdeal quote or even the Avenue Sound cost.

A query

Yamaha 573 has a Zone B feature. Does this mean that I can connect my 5.1 speakers for surround sound + I can have 2 separate un-amplified connections which I can then connect to Topping TP20 and a separate set of 2.0 speakers. Is my understanding correct? Would this speaker connection work during standby too (since it's un-amplified)?

Zone B can either be used for bi-amping the front speakers or for getting 2 channel sound in a separate speaker pair.
These are amplified connections and cannot be connected to your Topping TP20. You can use the AV-out connectors of the receiver if you want to connect Topping ,.

In that case it means that almost all basic Yamaha AVRs (starting with 3 series) have at least a 2 channel pre-out. One does not need to get a 7.1 system to use a 5.1 for movies and 2.0 for stereo.

That's good news for me. I'd then go for a Yamaha 473 (sadly it's out of stock recently) and use it for 5.1. I'd also be able to play music off my USB disk or via my WDTV both of which would be connected to the AVR and get stereo output via the AV Out which I can then feed into my Topping.

So the AVR is doing just the job of a DAC and not an amplifier in this case right?

Yes, you can connect external amps like that.
Even you can switch to 2 channel stereo mode in AVR and enjoy pure stereo music through speakers connected to AVR. The Yamaha AVR's are really good for music and you won't need a Topping again, IMHO.

And yes, when you connect WDTV (through optical/coaxial/HDMI) to AVR and using AVR's AV out, you are using the DAC inside AVR and not the amplifier.

In that case need to figure out some use for Topping! Thanks a ton for the explanation. It helps me a lot in planning my purchases.

Does ZOTAC GT440 1 GB DDR3 synergy edition supports Dolby true HD and DTS MA?

Hi All
I ordered on ebay ZOTAC GT 440 1 GB DDR3 (ZT-40703-10L) but the vendor shipped me its synergy edition (ZT-40708-10L) and the ZOTAC web site clearly mentioned that the first one supports Dolby true HD and DTS MA but but second one which I received supports bitstreaming and not clear that it supports both audio formats over HDMI or not.
here is the comparison

http://www.zotac.com/index.php?opti...roduct_id=394&func=&page=shop.compare&lang=en

I tryed to know that the synergy edition supports both the formats or not by googleing but not succeed yet please help.
Additional details I just own a YAMAHA RX V371 and would like to hook it with my PC using this card.
Thanks.
