Does ZOTAC GT440 1 GB DDR3 synergy edition supports Dolby true HD and DTS MA?

Hi All
I ordered on ebay ZOTAC GT 440 1 GB DDR3 (ZT-40703-10L) but the vendor shipped me its synergy edition (ZT-40708-10L) and the ZOTAC web site clearly mentioned that the first one supports Dolby true HD and DTS MA but but second one which I received supports bitstreaming and not clear that it supports both audio formats over HDMI or not.
here is the comparison

ZOTAC - It's time to play! - ZBOX nano Series

I tryed to know that the synergy edition supports both the formats or not by googleing but not succeed yet please help.
Additional details I just own a YAMAHA RX V371 and would like to hook it with my PC using this card.
Thanks.

GT440 series supports HD audio bitstreaming.

I am on the lookout for an AVR, with limited budget. Primary concern is music, but do not wish to lose out on the option of upgrading to an HT setup later on, so opting for an AVR.
I do not need advanced networking features, my choice therefore is RX 371.
How is the 371 in terms of musical quality, also will it be able to drive floorstanders like Wharfedale 10.5 or Sonodyne 2605 V3?
Will it have enough juice, so to speak to bring them to life?

Thanks, looking forward to responses and learn some more.

I have booked the Yamaha RX-V371, getting delivery tomorrow. :yahoo:

I will be using it in conjunction with my PC, which has a Asus Xonar DX. I want the PC to handle the .mkv rips and send the analogue 5.1 signal to the receiver. That does not seem to be possible, as the AVR does not have analogue inputs for 5.1 channel it seems.
There is a SPDIF / Optical Toslink out, but I am not sure whether that will carry surround signal or not, as most people seem to suggest that is for 2 channel stereo only. I could get a newer graphics card with HDMI out, but my Benq 22" does not have HDMI

Suggestions needed FMs, what are the possible workarounds?

If your PC sound card has SPDIF or Coaxial out then you can use this connection to connect to your 371 receiver to get 5.1 channel sound. SPDIF and Coaxial carry 5.1 channel sound. So enjoy :clapping:

Thanks Manni, it does have SPDIF out and came with a Toslink adapter. I bought a bandridge Toslink optical cable today to go with it, but it seems there are more than one variants of these cables out there. This one does not fit to the Toslink adapter provided with the card.
I will have to spend a little more on cables and sort, as always with AV equipments you think this expenditure is your last, thats it...I am not putting another penny out there....and there it goes

Ooooh let this night end, and the glorious morrow shine upon us....
not a poet, but can not wait to take delivery of the 371 !

Thanks again!

 Hey.. Can you post close up pics of this cable and also the socket on the card.. Because I have never come across a variant of toslink socket.. may be you'd have to unplug the cable or something...

Your sound card has mini toslink socket. They are made so so that they can share two output or one output+ one input in a single socket.

You need toslink to mini toslink adapter or cable
Something like this

Both are available on ebay.in
They will support 5.1 surround but not HD audio.

I think you are right, that is what I was thinking as well. Can you get me the link on ebay of the kind of cable? In the meantime I will do some searching as well. I will post pictures of the cable's ends.

On a different note, I am still getting used to life with 371 :clapping:
The Yamaha India site rates the AVR's power with respect to 4 Ohms, but the quick start guide states clearly not to connect speakers lesser than 6 Ohms.
Now I have 4 satellites from my old Edifier computer speaker, they are rated at 4 Ohms. These are small speakers and not that powerful. I was looking to use 2 of them as rear satellites for the time being. Just wanting to know if anyone has connected 4 Ohm speakers to 371/471/373/473, I am not connecting them till I am assured by other FMs.

Thanks and all the help is appreciated.

Also I am a complete toddler in the world of high quality audio equipment. Thank you for pointing things out to me Santy and rud3dawg and Manni and others. Could you also post a picture of the end of the optical cable that should go to the AVR? I am asking because the optical ports at the AVR have plastic 'cover' or plates on them, am I supposed to push those open or are they at all designed to be used that way?

Optical port is usually covered by rubber/plastic to protect from dust. Do not remove this covering. Just plug in the optical cable and it will fit perfectly.

Adapter

Cable

Fat end of the cable will go into the AVR. Just push it, the protection cap will slide in.

I do not recommend connecting your 4 ohm speaker, though I guess they are not power hungry and that the satellites are not driven continuously.

The receiver has limited power and not designed to handle 4 ohm load, so its better to avoid the risk (which also depends on what speakers you have for fronts; their impedance and sensitivity.

Thanks.
I actually figured it out, Asus I found did supply a Toslink adapter with the sound card and now I have connected my PC output through SPDIF to one of the optical inputs of the AVR.
SQ it seems has improved, I can notice the difference, more than marginal I should say.

I certainly do not wish to risk the receiver. My fronts are old Sony SS-DX3. These are 6 Ohm speakers,I will be replacing them with Sonodyne Sonus 1501s soon, can not afford much else at the moment, plus I did like the Sonodynes, they are not too bad.

I will then be pushing the Sonys to the rear as surrounds, I plan to listen to music in stereo mode and through the fronts only. Sonys can come into play for movies, can not afford a center channel now, and so was looking to connect the 4 Ohm speaker as center to at least play the 5.1 movie files and get the surround effect. But do not wish to jeopardise the AVR.
The Sonodyne sales guy at the store said that for a Yamaha such a small speaker should not be a problem specially if I connect just one, at best the AVR would blow the speaker, but the receiver is not in danger. Then again as I said, I rather would not do it and risk the equipment.

I read somewhere that Denon warns not to connect there AVR/Amps through UPS. Is there anything to that when it comes to Yamaha? Because I have my own connected through an UPS at the moment, do not wish to take any chances.

In my V667 when I choose 7ch stereo from music mode, cinema DSP appears on display.Does not occur with 2ch mode.Is there a way to prevent it from coming?

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
