Yamaha AVR owners thread

^^ Most people use TV USB, HD Media player or HTPC/laptop for movies. You can go for a basic HD media player like the Asus Oplay Mini.

Finally ended up buying the JBL combination of 4 Control One, 1 Control Now and 1 140P Sub speakers, to connect to my Yamaha Rx-V373.
Am happy with the end result.....thanks to one and all, for all the valuable inputs provided to me over the last several weeks, which helped me in zeroing down on my home theatre system.

Can someone tell me how do I play songs in my AVR from my laptop (NAS/NFS) I have downloaded XBMC on my laptop but could not figure out how to use it to play song to AVR via network feature.

Can somebody please help me?

Hi can anyone tell me how to use the standby pass through feature in rx-v473. I guess standby by pass through literally means the signals will be passed even when the av receiver is switched off right

This is what I do for my AVR667. Must be same for yours.

Go to Setup-->HDMI--->Standby Through--> On

Once it is On even when you switch off the AVR the input signal will be passed on. You can also change the source channel in standby mode

Not off,but in standby mode.Main power will be on & not AVR.You have to enter HDMI setting in setup where there is an option.

I have the same issue in my rx-v373. I don't see a "Standby Through" option under HDMI. There is only a "Standby sync" option. There does not seem to be a power standby mode on the 373. It only switches on or off.
Does the 373 actually support a "Stansby passthrough" feature, wherein I can pass through the HD signals from the set top box to my TV, without switching the amp ON ?

^ I have no experience in XBMC. But I have used Serviio which a DLNA media server. I have installed it in my laptop and shared the music folder through it. Now I can find the folder in my phone and other DLNA device and plays it. Though i dont know how to 'push' the song to player or 'play to' (without accessing folder in AVR or player)

Anyone using RXV with Jamo speakers here? Need some reviews :-). I currently use this combo and they sound good. Am not an audiophile and this setup is a huge step up from my 2.1 creative PC speakers :ohyeah:

Peace

Hi,

I have a Yamaha system imported from US, running on step down transformer which works with both AVR and subwoofer. Other Speakers do not require any electric supply so dont worry for them.
Using the system for last one year with no problems at all.
Cycles don't matter as step down transformer takes care of this.
AVR only gives sound output to Sub so different operating voltages won't matter.

Do let me know if you have any other questions.

Nitin

Thanks for the information

I think as an experienced Yamaha user you can help me to solve cople of things more.

I am having Yamaha A2020 Receiver, 140 Watts per channel. Bit confused about the speaker selection. As I mentioned earlier I have Polk audio CS20 for center 20-150 watts range. Could you pls help me to select the front and surround speakers. I was planning with Polk TSi500(front) 20-275watts range and TSi200 (surround) 20-150 Watts range, Sub Polk PSW 125 (sub) 150 watts. Those are ok for this receiver? Or shoud I go for a higher range. I heared that the speaker capacity should be higher than the receiver. In that view my center, surround and sub are very close to receiver out 140 watts. Is that going to affect the speaker or quality of music?

Thanks

Is the Pre Out level of Yamaha RX V667 low?
I have connected my Front Speakers to my Integrated Amp. In a stereo set up the source (DAC) is directly connected to CD in of the Amp and I normally play at around 12 O clock position of Volume control.
For HT/Movies I have connected the Preouts (FL & FR) from AVR to Amp Aux in. However I find that even with Volume control of the Amp turned up fully the dB level is low. YAPAO calibration boosted the Fronts by +4 dB and reduced the center and Surrounds by about -9 dB. The Amps Volume Control is kept at 3.0 O Clock

From the above I have to conclude that the Pre Out levels of AVR are very low. Is there a way to check this?
Can I connect the Preouts to the Phono MM in of the Amp as I guess it will accept lower input levels?

Yes, you might have to turn full volume in 667. if you want to listen to music, try SSP preamp with your integrated amp , if you are not planning to add power amp. It will give significant difference in sound.

If you connect integrated amp to preouts, you need to turn the volume control(stereo amp)to full, else you can hardly get loud sound.Preouts are usually for power amps which dont have volume control mostly & so you get perfect sound.Still I can say that 667 has low pre output than my PC soundcard connected to poweramp. With around 70w power amp,Yamaha volume level was around -20 which is equal to my regular 667 setup. When connected power amp to PC,I had to turn down my PC volume from 50 to 20(reduced).
