Thanks rud3dawg, this is comforting. You also have the HDMI out displayed in red :)

Hey Guys,

Is there any standard level of tuning of sound level and configurations for movies without using YPAO ?
Please guide me with a proper tuning in db level of FS L / FS R/ CS / SS L / SS R / Sub and configurations

My current calibration are as below -
FS L & R - 11 ft - +3db
CS - 9 ft - +5db
SS L - 3ft - +5db
SS R - 5 ft - + 6db
Sub - 13 ft - +1 db

Other setting
Cinema DSP 3D
Pro Logic II Movie
Enhancer On
Configuration-FS (Large), SS & CS ( Small ), Sub ( Phase - Reverse, Bass Cross Over - 60 Hz, Extra Bass - On )
Equalizer - Graphic EQ. All speakers at same volume level and with similar frequency. 63Hz (0) /160Hz (0) /400Hz (0) /1.0kHz (0)/2.5kHz ( +1.5 db )/6.3kHz (+3.5db)/16.0kHz(5.0db)

There is no standard level. YPAO is meant to configure the system taking into consideration the room acoustics. Also it will only give guideline values.
If you feel the need you can still fine tune the automatic settings obtained by changing the values in manual settings

The values posted by you look normal. Why are your surround speakers not equidistant to your listening position? Is this the real measured distance or is it due to YPAO getting it wrong?

To get best results-
1.Set speaker distance accurately
2.Run test tone & adjust levels correctly.
3.Mostly keep all speakers small & CO 80Hz.
4.Use Straight or pure direct mode

So thats simple way can give you better results.

SS distance is real. Not equidistant as currently the set up is in my bedroom and bed is placed at one of the corners while SS are at the 2 extreme corners. So at the listening position where my bed play a role better than the recliner the surround speakers are not at the same distance. Will do proper room setup sometime later.

Will try using YPAO and check the difference in the SQ .

Isnt straight / direct mode only for music listening ? Will try point no 3 and check the difference

This mode works in HT too.I find in Pure direct original sound is not changed much as no DSP used.It doesnt sound bright too.Dsp makes sound softer.

Used YPAO and it really make the difference. Except the sub distance and level as -10db rest all were cool. Increased the sub level to -3db !! And it sounds grrrrreat ....

@spirovious - Will try straight / pure tomorrow and check the difference in SQ.

Thanks guys ....

Just to clarify:
Straight/ Pure modes settings come in to play only while listening . They do not effect YPAO.

I need a little help. How can I use my RX-V 673 to play something played on my Panasonic Plasma GT50 through Audio Reverse Channel. I have attached the two via HDMI cable and the same is plugged in to the TV at HDMI port specifically specified by Panasonic for ARC.
Why I need ARC. I have Panasonic BDP 220 but my TV is far more superior player in terms of types of format it can play. I have not encountered a single video file which the TV could not play while this is not the case with the BD player.

I never used ARC but from what I gathered from the net you may need a new HDMI cable that supports ARC - it should be 1.4 version. First try out with your existing HDMI cable . Go to settings of both TV and AVR to enable ARC and also ensure that the HDMI cable is connected to the ARC supported port on AVR also

Did you do the below for your RX-673:

Enabling ARC (Audio Return via HDMI)
Your TV MUST support ARC! If ARC is not listed in the TV Manual/Documentation, consult your TV manufacture for assistance.
Setup Note: The Yamaha remote will be needed to access the On Screen display, as well as a HDMI TV/Monitor connected to the HDMI output on the Yamaha receiver.

1. Press the On Screen Button to enter the on screen menu.
2. Use the Arrow Up/Down arrow buttons to navigate to Setup and press enter.
3. The Setup Menu will come up.
4. Us the Arrow Left/Right buttons to navigate to HDMI and press enter.
5. HDMI Configuration will come up and HDMI control should be highlighted.
6. Press the Enter button and HDMI control should come up.
7. Press the Enter button and highlight ON and press enter. (Even if it is already on.)
8. The HDMI Control window will come up with and the following options should be set as noted below. (If not you can use the arrow keys to make changes.)
TV Audio Input AV4(Default)
ARC On
Standby Sync Auto
9. Press the On Screen button to exit the Setup Menu.

Troubleshooting:
The steps above are the only settings needed to enable ARC on the Yamaha receiver. There are no other tweaks or adjustments to be made.
If you have followed the steps above and ARC is not functioning, try the following:
1. Make sure that you have a High Speed HDMI cable.
2. The HDMI cable is connected to the ARC input on your TV. This may be marked ARC, if not consult your TV owners manual for the proper connection.
3. Make sure that you have gone through the proper setup procedure for enabling ARC on you TV.
4. Power the Yamaha receiver and TV On/Off

Couretsy: Yamaha Corporation.

May be you have in your manual to look at "Connecting a TV page 23".

I think I have to change the cable and retry. Any way, thanks for the support. I will revert once I succeed.

You have to connect a display/TV through Video or Component out if HDMI does not work for accessing the GUI

Hi guys,

I am new to Hifi and planning to buy a new AVR. In various websites and forums, its mentioned that Yamaha avrs has lesser bass or low frequency performance compared to say Onkyo or Denon. I would like to hear from the Yamaha Owners. Also I would like to know the opinion on RXV 573 and 673.

Thanks in advance.

From what I've heard, Onkyo and Denon have a bit of pronounced bass whereas Yamahas have very neutral output.

Hi what price you are getting there.

I have a quote of 49k in banglore/Madurai for 673

Hi There,

I'm looking to buy the Yamaha-rx-v475 receiver, a pair of Yamaha NS-555 speakers and pair it with a yamaha-yst-sw215 sub. I had a demo of the setup in Yamaha's store in bangalore and found that the speakers by themselves were not completely up to the mark for low frequencies. Hence i choose to also for a sub. When i asked for a quote the sales guy quoted about 40 for the receiver and another 40 for the speakers. Has anyone else bought any of the above equipment or know what the general rate is?

I got a slight shock when i read what peace sells wrote in the attached trend

Also your thoughts and comments on configuration would be most helpful.

Thanks
