Yamaha AVR owners thread

Thanks guys.
I am not planning to add another Amp to my AVR.
My requirement is to be able to use the same front speakers for Stereo(Directly from Source+Integrated Amp) and HT from AVR.

Currently I have connected the Preouts of AVR to Integrated Amp. Yes with this I am forced to keep the Volume levels high for both AVR and Integrated .
( -20dB for AVR and 55 for Arcam)

Just wondering if I did anything wrong. If I am not happy with the above set up will add a selector switch to speakers.

I too use a stereo amp (Yamaha S2000) and AVR (Onkyo 3010) to run both 2 channel and home theatre.

My CD player is connected to the Yamaha
All other devices are connected to the Onkyo and the front left-right pre out of the Onkyo are connected to the power amp in of the Yamaha.

In 2 channel mode on the CD player and Yamaha have to be on. In HT mode the source, Onkyo and Yamaha need to be on.

If your integrated has a power amp in then you are set. Otherwise the aux input on the stereo amp will mean you have to operate 2 volume controls in HT mode.

My setup is similar. Musical fidelity M6i integrated amp & Yamaha RX V-667
AV receiver connected to same Floor standing speaker Monitor audio GS20.

My int.amp has Home theater Bypass feature hence when the pre out from
av receiver connected it acts like a power amp. the volume control of the int.amp will not work, only av receiver volume control will function.
But you have to switch on both amp & receiver.

While listening to music AV receiver need not be switched on.

Hope this will give some clarity.

Is the Pre Out level of Yamaha RX V667 low?
I have connected my Front Speakers to my Integrated Amp. In a stereo set up the source (DAC) is directly connected to CD in of the Amp and I normally play at around 12 O clock position of Volume control.
For HT/Movies I have connected the Preouts (FL & FR) from AVR to Amp Aux in. However I find that even with Volume control of the Amp turned up fully the dB level is low. YAPAO calibration boosted the Fronts by +4 dB and reduced the center and Surrounds by about -9 dB. The Amps Volume Control is kept at 3.0 O Clock

From the above I have to conclude that the Pre Out levels of AVR are very low. Is there a way to check this?
Can I connect the Preouts to the Phono MM in of the Amp as I guess it will accept lower input levels?

You need to connect it to the AV input not the Aux in

Thanks for the tip. Yes connecting to the AV input and fixing the Volume level in Processor mode eliminates Volume adjustment of the Amp manually.

But the need for keeping the Amp Volume level high at almost 5.0 O clock position to match the level of other speakers of HT remains. I am assuming that this is basically due to low preout levels of the Yamaha AVR compared to the line level outputs of a DVD player or WD TV.

This is OK as it does not cause any other problems.

A strange thing happened with me yesterday. I was running the AVR with a LCR setup. Yesterday I connected the surrounds resulting in a 5.0 setup. I don't have a sub as of now. When I ran YPAO, it kept detecting a sub. I am not quite sure why it does that. Am going to run the same again this weekend to check whether it's happening again

Quick query to all Yammy owners.

Does your audio/video play stutter/blinks when you switch on the connected devices? e.g. if I am playing music through WDTV (which is connected to the AVR via HDMI) and I switch the TV on or off, the music stops playing for a second or two when the TV is being powered on (from standby). It resumes normally after that. My TV does not support ARC.

Please check if you have mistakenly connected one of the speakers to the Sub out post on the AVR. ( I have two outs for the Sub)

Edit: Just realized that connecting a normal speaker to Sub out is not possible as the output is a preout

No, I have not. Also, this problem is now not relevant to me anymore as I've got a sub and now it works fine. Although I am not a great fan of the YPAO though as it keeps giving different results every time I try and set it.

Can anybody guide pl? I connected the Broadband cable to the LAN socket in the back of the AVR and pressed `Net' on the AVR remote. The display was `Net Radio' & `Loading'. The display continued and I waited even upto 20 minutes. But it continued with the same display- `Loading'. What exactly is the way to use net connection in the AVR?

My AVR does not have a LAN connection.

But teh normal procedure is:
A broad band cable should be connected to your modem. You login with teh iser name and password given by your service provider. ( This may not be required in some cases)

The AVR is then connected to your modem's LAN port for getting internet

^^ Not able to understand.:o I have only a cable coming to my house with a plug at the end. This plug I connect to my PC socket directly. The same plug I took out and connected it to the similar looking AVR socket. Whenever I switch on my PC, the message for log in comes which I click and it goes online. User name and password is already fed. Sorry, I'm pathetically incompetent in computer world. :D

Well it seems u get a direct lan cable from a local isp or cable guy which requires login in browser to use the internet.

For it to work on the avr your would have to add a router and have it setup to login and then cables from the router then can feed the yamaha and your desktop simultaneously.

Get in touch with your isp/cable guy and have him setup a router. Basic router like tp link 740n can be bought for 900 bucks and is plenty for your setup

tapped on Note II cdma

Hello, have a quick query - On my RX V373, I see HDMI out displaying in red on the top left of the display panel. Is that normal or is indicating some kind of error? The HDMI out is connected to my LG LCD and seems to be working fine.DSC02007.jpg

Thank you,
Rikhi
